Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up living in New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was employed as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. She became a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located in Washington DC. The following year, she was a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. Beginning in 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988 she became the chief congressional reporter. She was made the chief White House correspondent by NBC News in the year 1992. Mitchell appeared as both the host and panelist for the TV news show Meet the Press. She was on the panel during 1988's presidential debates, that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded numerous honors for her journalism achievements, such as the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. Mitchell was also awarded by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award presented by the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell was the first reporter to cover White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure as president from 1981-1988. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable reports over the years, including the tax reforms, budget reforms, and an investigation into the Iran Contra saga. She travelled frequently with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
